Thoughts from the Chatsworth Primary Hallway

International Mindedness Festival 2016-2016

What an incredible week of learning we have had where teaching groups included secondary and primary students working and learning together. The theme of the week, Saving My Tomorrow, has focused the teachers and students in a variety of areas. Biodiversity, water, freedom, art, well-being, play, tradition, language and peace are the big concepts the students have been investigating.  The investigations have taken them out of the classroom and into the heart of Singapore from interviewing locals and visitors about what equality means to explore the nature of play towards understanding diversity.

The week ended with a parade of the nations represented in our school and a delicious food fest representing the wonderful food from across the world. The Chatsworth community has had a week of transforming the IB learner profile attributes into real life learning engagements highlighting tolerance and open-mindedness as the keys to international mindedness.

International Mindedness Festival 2016-2016

Chatsworth Orchard is looking forward to our annual Orchard School Fair that will be held tomorrow, Saturday, March 19 from 10 am to 2 pm. As a way to bring our community together, the School Fair will be the launch of our first International Mindedness Festival (IMF). There will be games and activities for the students in the classrooms on the main floor of the Primary Building (Block 3) including crafts, rainbow loom bands, face painting, activities on the astroturf, the Secondary Dance Off 2016 Competition finale in the Main Hall and more.

We are excited to celebrate our first International Mindedness Festival, which will be held next week from March 21-24th. This event will be a blend of some of the community's favourite activities alongside some brand new, whole-school learning opportunities.

We have a motivated team of IBDP students leading the event and guiding the rest of the students. The theme will be 'Saving My Tomorrow' and the students will choose one of ten concepts to learn about, to help make a better future for all of us. Students will then be placed in a group based on which topic they are most passionate about. By the end of the week, students will have gained an understanding of sustainability and ways in which every individual can take action to make a difference to the world.

As part of the International Mindedness Festival, students from Year 3 to Year 10 will be participating in Service Learning excursions. Early Years students will participate in Service Learning on campus, taking action on their topics of choice with their homeroom classes. The purpose of their Service Learning is for students to learn more about the concept they have chosen for ‘Saving My Tomorrow’ and to identify ways they can continue meaningful service work in the future. Each of the groups will be visiting a different place and you will receive more details nearer the time. These visits will be taking place on Tuesday, 22nd March.

We will end the week with a celebration of the students’ learning, as well as the annual Parade of Nations and Food Festival.

Please check out the following website for more details.

This site contains all of the information you will need for the week - please check regularly.

Sport's Day March 10, 2016

Yesterday saw the first K2-Y6 Sports Day in the primary school.  In the past, the EY and JY sports days were two events taking place at two different venues.  Last year, after the EY and JY sports days, the Primary Spirit Working Group proposed a whole school event at one site.  The Spirit Working Group together with the PE teachers Ms Brennan and Mr Muhammad have been planning for this event for the best part of 6 months.  Yesterday, we all enjoyed the fruits of their labour!  The venue they chose allowed for all the EY and JY events to take place simultaneously.  With hats and sunscreen in toe and plenty of water and fruit available,  all the students enjoyed competing for their house teams.  Parents too enjoyed watching and sometimes competing in the day's events! Thank you to the CPG, who organised a group of parents to support each event, as well as the manning the rest station with water and fruit.  The House Assembly on Friday was dedicated to medals and certificates, as well as the winning Trophy!  Congratulations to Changi, who are the House winners for the 2015-2016 Sports Day.
