Thoughts from the Chatsworth Primary Hallway
Gong Xi Fa Chai - The Year of the Monkey
The first 3 days of last week we had time off to celebrate the new lunar year. The second half of the week the primary teachers were part of two days of workshops run by other primary teachers. Mrs. Riemer ran a workshop on reporting, Mrs. Withington ran a half day workshop on transdisciplinary learning and the teaching of writing within the context of the IB PYP units of inquiry, Ms. Heard ran an afternoon on mathematics instruction at Chatsworth and Mr. Lucchesi facilitated a session on constructivist education. These sessions helped the teachers to further develop their teaching practice in language and mathematics, learning and improving, trying our new initiatives all in the name of developing the teaching and learning of language and mathematics at Chatsworth. I am very proud of our teachers as facilitators and as learners.
Here are some photos of the workshops:

Perspectives from the PYP Coordinator
In the final year of the PYP the students participate in a culminating project, the PYP exhibition. This requires that each student demonstrates engagement with the five essential elements of the programme— knowledge, skills, concepts, attitudes, action. It is both a transdisciplinary inquiry conducted in the spirit of personal and shared responsibility, as well as a summative assessment activity that is a celebration and rite of passage, symbolic and actual, from the PYP into the middle years of schooling (IBO Exhibition Guidelines 2008). Our unit for exhibition is Sharing the plant with the central idea of: rights to resources causes conflict.
Before Chinese New Year, students developed a deeper understanding of action by interviewing experts. Then this week, the students in Y6, officially began the exhibition! .On Wednesday, the students tuned in with a walk on Orchard Road. They looked at what are the resources you see, what are the conflicts that you see and where do you see all these resources.
Check out the reflections and brainstorming that happened on the walls by the back gate and the photos below. Please feel free to add your ideas to the brainstorms.

INTERNATIONAL MINDEDNESS FESTIVAL
24th to 28th March 2016
This year, we are excited to launch our first International Mindedness Festival. This event will be a blend of some of the community's favourite activities alongside some brand new, whole school learning opportunities.
We have a motivated team of IB DP students leading the event and guiding the rest of the students. This year's theme will be 'Saving My Tomorrow' and the students will choose one of ten concepts to learn about to help make a better future for all of us. Students throughout the school will be working together and participating in Service Learning trips.
During this week, you can also look forward to the annual School Fair, the Parade of Nations and the Food Festival.
