Perspectives from the PYP Coordinator

27 May

Within our units of inquiry, teachers are always looking for ways to connect to the community around us. These connections allow students to better understand their home communities. The Year 2 classes are currently studying How we organize ourselves with the Central Idea: Services within a community are developed to meet the needs and wants of the people in it. To better understand their line of inquiry: services within the community, the teachers invited guest speakers to talk about some of the services available within the Singapore community.  Policemen, firemen, tax consultants,  layers, nutritionist, doctor and even our own Mr. Gopal have been some of the speakers. Here are photos from a few of these visits:

Perspectives from the PYP Coordinator

20 May

This week we were so lucky to observe our students acting as the guides for their parent’s learning during Student Led Conferences.  Parents tried holding a plank position for as long as possible, trying different reading strategies to improve their understanding, playing games in mathematics as well as word study, building new environments that meet either our needs or wants and many more learning engagements. Inquiry learning was evident in every classroom I toured. Students provided knowledge to explain their understanding in such captivating ways. Parents were busy listening, supporting and encouraging their children by asking questions and participating. Check out all the photos and videos from this day of important learning in our community.

Perspective from the PYP Coordinator

13 May

Our residential experiences for students provide AWESOME FUN, as the students all let me know!

Last week, the Year Four students head to Serimbun Scout Camp and this week the Year Six students headed to Kota Tingi, Malaysia with Asian Detours.

Traveling with their peers, sleeping in bunks with their friends, going on adventure hikes, surfing on stand up paddle boards, acting in skits at the camp fire, raft building, cooking lunches and chatting all night long are the things the students feel make camp so much fun for them. The Y4 and Y6 students looked really tired when they returned but they had really big smiles. The teachers had sleepless nights  but had great adventures too.

Year Fives head out 25 May and I cannot wait to hear about their adventures.
