Perspectives from the PYP Coordinator

24 November
Recess - Break
Chatsworth offers three breaks or recesses during the day to give children some time to independently explore and play with their friends. We believe that play and socialization are vital parts of a healthy school day. These breaks are unstructured and the time is purely student choice. We have a trike area, ball games areas, and ‘chill out’ area. From the literature, we know:

During recess, children play, and learning through play has been long known as a vital aspect of childhood development. Some of the earliest studies of play began with G. Stanley Hall, in the 1890s. These studies sparked an interest in the developmental, mental and behavioral tendencies of babies and children.

The American Academy of Pediatrics believes that recess is a crucial and necessary component of a child’s development and, as such, it should not be withheld for punitive or academic reasons.

Check out the photos below of our children having snack and playing at recess this week.

Camping for Year Five and Year Six

17 November Camp Adventures

This week has been another year in the exciting adventures of Year Five and Year Six Camp. As the PYP Coordinator, I was able to attend the Year Six sleepover at Pulau Ubin.  We slept in tents and took an confidence walk in the dark in the rain forest. It was challenging and fun for the students and they were excellent participants. Everyone participated and were such great risk-takers.

Check out the photos from both groups leaving from school and the Year Six overnight.
