Perspectives from the PYP Coordinator

26 May

Today I enjoyed sharing my passion for literacy with a group of parents at the Parent Cafe.  We examined our approach to language through: the written curriculum - reading, the written curriculum - writing, viewing and speaking, listening and speaking. Parents learned about how every teacher in the Primary School is a language, whether they teach French, Physical Education or are a homeroom teacher. At Chatsworth in the IB  PYP, MYP or DP, we learn the language, we learn about the language, and we learn through language. Our approach to language is still through inquiry and transdisciplinary learning.

After exploring the concepts of language, parents visited classroom. Take a look at our photos from the event:

Perspectives from the PYP Coordinator

12 May

According to Kenneth Ginsburg in the American Pediatrics Journal, play is essential to development because it contributes to the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being of children and youth. Play also offers an ideal opportunity for parents to engage fully with their children…. Play is a cherished part of childhood that offers children important developmental benefits and parents the opportunity to fully engage with their children.

At Chatsworth Primary, we believe that play is a vital part of our program. Check out some of moments that I caught this week to support this theory.

Now to watching some play from your Year Five classes! Year Five Camp video link
