Thoughts from the Chatsworth Primary Hallway

This week marked the celebration of the Year 6 Exhibition unit of inquiry.  The PYP Exhibition is the culminating unit in the life of a PYP student.  The Exhibition at Chatsworth took a different turn this year, with more emphasis placed on celebrating the process leading up to the final product.  Instead of having a room where the product of the student’s seven weeks of work is displayed, we had five rooms. These five rooms showed the process that the students went through to get to their final understandings, creations and actions. The Exhibition was presented as a journey, with the students as the guides taking visitors through the inquiry cycle used to structure the Exhibition.

Each room was based on the phases of inquiry as outlined by Kath Murdoch and was designed by a group of year six students assigned to that phase.
  • The Tuning In room focused on student’s prior knowledge, questions and the connections they started to make as they began their inquiry.
  • The Finding Out/Sorting Out room where students highlighted their work as researchers and analysts of information.
  • The Going Further room showed how the inquiries were personalised by students and how they took their learning to the next level.
  • The Synthesising and Reflecting room where students showed how far they have come in their understandings and what has changed for them along the way.
  • In the Acting and Applying room the students were able to show off the final versions of things they have created and actions that they have taken.

K1 Sports Day also took place this week.  The K1 students enjoyed a morning of fun activities in the school gymnasium under the direction of their PE teacher, Mr. Marcello and their homeroom teachers Mrs. Neelam and Miss Betsy.  We all enjoyed participating in the K1 fun morning.
